Book Printing in Surat
Book printing differs from other commercial print in that the reading experience matters as much as the reproduction. Margins have to allow for the binding, paper has to be opaque enough that the reverse side does not show through, and the spine width has to be calculated from the actual bulk of the chosen stock.
We print educational material, souvenir volumes, annual reports, institutional publications and self-published titles. Short runs go on digital press; longer editions move to offset where the per-copy cost drops considerably.
The spine calculation is the detail that most often goes wrong when a cover is designed elsewhere. Spine width depends on page count and the specific paper’s bulk. Get it wrong and the cover artwork wraps incorrectly.
What book printing includes
Perfect binding
Glued square spine — the standard for paperbacks and reports.
Section sewn binding
Sewn signatures for durability where the book will be opened repeatedly for years.
Hardcase binding
Board-cased hardcover with printed or laminated wrap for premium volumes.
Text paper options
70–80 GSM maplitho for economy and opacity; art paper where images matter.
Spine calculation
Calculated from your exact page count and paper bulk, so the cover wraps correctly.
Short or long runs
Digital for small quantities, offset once volume justifies it.

Book Printing — frequently asked questions
How is spine width calculated?
Spine width is page count multiplied by the paper’s bulk (thickness per sheet), plus the cover boards for a hardcase. It differs between paper stocks even at the same GSM, so it must be calculated for your exact specification — not estimated.
What is a gutter margin?
The gutter is the extra inner margin next to the binding. Without it, text disappears into the spine when the book is opened, particularly on thick perfect-bound volumes. The heavier the book, the more gutter it needs.
What is the minimum quantity for book printing?
There is effectively no minimum on digital press — we can print very short runs, which suits self-published authors and institutional reports. Offset becomes more economical at higher volumes, and we will tell you where the crossover point falls for your book.
Which binding lasts longest?
Section sewn is the most durable because the pages are physically stitched rather than only glued. It is the right choice for reference books, registers and anything opened repeatedly over many years. Perfect binding is adequate for most general reading.
