Opening a business in Surat? The branding and print checklist
New businesses tend to make one of two mistakes: spending heavily on brand material before there is anything to sell, or launching with no identity at all and reprinting everything six months later. This is the order that avoids both.
Phase 1 — before you open
- Logo, with vector source files and full ownership. Everything else prints from this, so getting it right first prevents reprinting later.
- Visiting cards. The single highest-return print item for a new business — 300 GSM matte is a perfectly good default.
- GST bill book. You cannot invoice compliantly without one. Duplicate for services, triplicate if you move goods.
- Letterhead. Needed sooner than most people expect, for quotations, purchase orders and correspondence.
- Signboard or shop branding. Your most-seen asset if you have a physical premises.
Phase 2 — first three months
- Envelopes and document files, printed with the letterhead so colour matches.
- Pamphlets, if local distribution suits your trade.
- Social media profile assets, consistent with the printed identity.
- A simple website — even a few well-built pages, with the technical groundwork done properly.
Phase 3 — once revenue is steady
- Written brand guidelines, so future suppliers reproduce your identity correctly.
- Company profile brochure or product catalogue.
- Packaging and label design, if you sell a physical product.
- Corporate gifting, ahead of the first Diwali.
What Surat-specific things to get right
- If you are trading on Ring Road or moving goods, order triplicate bill books from the start — a transporter copy is not optional.
- If you are in Sachin GIDC or Udhna, a product catalogue does more selling than a brochure does.
- If you are opening a clinic or boutique in Vesu or Piplod, spend on the visiting card. It is the asset most of your prospects will judge.
- Register your Google Business Profile immediately, with your address and phone exactly as they appear on your printed material.
The consistency rule
Whatever you print, keep the name, address and phone number identical everywhere — cards, letterhead, signboard, Google Business Profile, JustDial. Inconsistent details are not just untidy; they actively weaken how search engines associate listings and mentions with your business.
