Pamphlet printing in Surat: what actually decides your cost per copy
Pamphlets remain one of the cheapest ways to reach a local catchment in Surat, and the economics reward understanding four variables. Getting them right can mean the same budget reaching twice as many people, or reaching the same people with something they actually keep.
The four variables
1. Quantity — the big one
Offset printing has a fixed setup cost: plates are made, the press is set up, and colour is brought to standard. That cost is identical whether you print 500 copies or 10,000. Spread across 500, it dominates the price. Spread across 10,000, it almost disappears. This is why 5,000 copies rarely cost anything like ten times what 500 cost.
2. Paper weight
| Paper | Feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 70 GSM maplitho | Light, economical | Mass door-to-door and newspaper inserts |
| 100 GSM art paper | Noticeably more solid | Retail offers, coaching admissions |
| 130 GSM art paper | Premium, holds colour well | Real estate, clinics, anything where perception matters |
3. One side or two
Printing both sides costs considerably less than double, because the setup is already done and the paper is already bought. If you have more to say than fits on one side, double-sided is usually the better value decision — not the more expensive one.
4. Size
A6 handbill, A5 or A4. Smaller sizes cost less per copy and are easier to distribute; A4 gives you room for detail. A5 is the most common compromise in Surat and generally the right default.
Where pamphlet money gets wasted
- Too little contrast — pale text on a photograph is unreadable at arm’s length on newsprint-weight paper.
- No single clear action. One phone number, large, beats three contact routes in small type.
- Ordering below 1,000, where setup cost dominates and digital would have been cheaper.
- Printing before the distribution plan exists, so boxes sit in an office.
- Skipping the proof check. A wrong digit in the phone number wastes the entire run.
Practical timings
Allow three to five working days from approved artwork for a standard run. If you have a fixed distribution date — a shop opening, an admission deadline, a festival weekend — say so at the quote stage rather than at the proof stage.
